i think you’re subtly misunderstanding what not being a burden means. it’s not about expense, it’s about deficit.

carrying a big rock around would be a burden, and yet pushing a kick scooter isn’t. a kick scooter has comparable weight and you need to apply force to move it, force you wouldn’t need to exert otherwise‍ ‍‍—‍ and yet that it has wheels means that on a flat surface, bringing the scooter with you makes you go faster

when someone tells you that you aren’t a burden, they aren’t telling you that there’s no cost to keeping you in their life, they’re telling you that the benefits they gain outweight that‍ ‍‍—‍ they’re better off

Much as I’m complaining I’m still listening to the S2 soundtrack and it’s inspiring genuine emotional reactions in me. Which is more than can be said for the overwhelming majority of big budget genre fic. So like, fair play ‍-​ a mess and a failure compared to season 1, still far above the average here.

because it’s poorly designed. this isn’t a rare complaint. when someone is bad at tagging, it’s their problem, when everyone’s bad at tagging, it’s the site’s problem. almost everything worth categorizing about a fic gets squashed down to an amorphous block of Additional Tags, and you’re given no prompt or guidance for what tags should be added and what tags are worth adding.

notes about the themes and structure and central focus of the fic are placed side by side with minor, incidental features and author chatter. why are relationships given their own category, but not genre? ironically this is something fanfiction.net did better.

i think paradoxically, sites with worse tagging systems often have better tagging. when you create a new work on royalroad, this is all you get:
